PSYCHOTHERAPY
Dr. Michelle Babcock works with adults (ages 18 and up) using "Depth" Insight-Oriented Therapy, but when needed, she incorporates strategies from Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Mindfulness, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, or trauma-informed modalities. She believes that therapy is a sacred and personal experience that offers an opportunity for an individual to get to know oneself.

Principles of neuroscience suggest that mental processes—such as thinking, feeling, and reasoning—are fundamentally linked to neural processes. Our experiences, including learning, can modify the strength and structure of these neural connections, leading to changes in our mental processes. It is these modifications in neural networks that can result in long-term changes in behavior.

Dr. Babcock believes that, in addition to scientific evidence, the fundamental principles and conditions established during psychotherapy can lead to changes in the brain's structure and function. It is this rewiring of the brain, combined with the new choices we make in our daily lives, that contributes to lasting change.

In psychotherapy, Dr. Babcock will help you accomplish your goals by providing a warm environment where she will walk beside you, and assist you in deepening self-understanding by:
-
Increasing awareness of your thoughts, emotions, or behaviors and how these influence your psychological health
-
Identifying repeating patterns,
-
Helping change how you relate to yourself and the world, and
-
Assigning homework between sessions
At times, this focus inward can be challenging and uncomfortable; however, through increased awareness, you will be better able to make more informed choices about how you want to move through this world. There are no guarantees for change, and the outcome largely depends on how willingly you engage in this process and incorporate new behaviors into your daily life.
